Changing Video Modes

The CLMODE utility lets you change video modes from the MS-DOS prompt.
The SETRES utility lets you change video modes from the Windows Program
Manager.

Using CLMODE.EXE

The CLMODE.EXE utility lets you set the various standard and Super VGA
modes of your on-board video circuitry. Before using CLMODE, run the
setup utility. Choose setup options to set the maximum video resolution
and the refresh rates that match your monitor. If you want to use the
mouse to make selections, load the mouse driver before running CLMODE.

Run the CLMODE utility at the MS-DOS prompt in one of two ways:

* If you do not know the number of the mode you want to
   use:

At the MS-DOS prompt, type "cd\clutil" and press ENTER.
Then, type "clmode" and press ENTER. Select "Video
Modes," and choose a mode from the "Video Mode Setup"
window. CLMODE displays only the video modes supported
by your system. Mode support depends on your monitor and
the maximum video resolution and refresh settings you
selected with the setup utility. Select the "Help"
option of "Video Mode" to display CLMODE help.

* If you know the number of the mode you want to use:

At the MS-DOS prompt, type "c: \clutil\clmode nn" and
press ENTER. ("nn" is the number of the mode desired.)

For information on entering command line options, type:

  "clmode /?"

and press ENTER. If you enter an invalid command line option, the
command line is displayed.

Press ALT +F4 or click on the Exit option of the CLMODE main window to
exit the CLMODE utility.

Using the SETRES Utility

The SETRES utility lets you:

*  set the screen resolution

* select the display font size (large or small)

* select the number of simultaneous screen colors for
   some resolutions

The options that you can select with SETRES depend on the maximum video
resolution set by the SETUP utility. For example, if the SETUP utility
sets a maximum video resolution of 640 x 480, only the 640 x 480
resolution is available when you run SETRES. You can use the CLMODE
utility or the SETUP utility to pick a higher maximum video resolution
supported by your monitor. With a higher maximum video resolution set,
more choices are available when you run SETRES.

Before running SETRES, verify that a multiple-resolution display driver
is selected. From the Program Manager, open the Main group. Double
click on the SETUP icon. The Windows SETUP dialog box is displayed.

If a standard Window display driver such as "VGA," is selected, you must
change the driver. Click on the Options menu to make changes. Select
"Change System Setting" and choose one of the multiple-resolution drivers
(such as "CL-GD5426/CL-GD5428v1.3 Windows driver).

Close Windows SETUP. YOU can now run SETRES. Open the VGA Utilities
group. Double click on the SETRES icon to start the utility. Make
selections to set the screen resolution, font size, and/or number of
simultaneous colors.
