PC Sound System Plus (250-1701) Installation Faxback Doc. # 2660

First you must install the sound board. It contains ports and jacks for
connecting the joystick and computer speakers included in this package.
Follow these steps, in the order presented, to be certain of proper
operation.

INSTALLING THE SOUND BOARD:

1) Turn off the power to your entire computer system.

2) Disconnect all cables and attachments, including peripheral
    connections.

3) Open your computer's cover, according to the computer's instructions.

4) Select any open expansion slot which matches the number of gold fingers
at the bottom of your Soundboard. Remove the metal bracket for that
slot and put its mounting screw aside. You will need it to secure the
    sound card later.

5) Place the gold-fingered edge of the sound card directly above the
expansion slot. If your computer's expansion slots are vertical,
orient the sound card for installation the same as the other cards
    already in place.

6) Gently push down on the sound card until it seats firmly into place.
Make sure the gold fingers are evenly inserted and seated securely.

7) Fasten the sound card using the screw you removed in Step 4

8) Replace the computer's cover and fasten it securely..

INSTALLING A JOYSTICK:

Locate the 15-pin D-subminiature female jack on the back of the sound
board. This is the game port. Connect your joystick plug to the game
port.

*NOTE: if you late want to connect a MIDI keyboard device, you must remove
the joystick plug. You can install a separate, independent game
        card in another expansion slot.

CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS:

1) Locate the audio output jack on the outside of the sound card. This
jack is located between the sound card's game port and the volume control.
See diagram on Page 4) Insert the 1/8 inch stereo phone plug from the
speakers into the sound card's audio output jack.

2) Connect the left speaker to the right speaker.

MOUNTING THE SPEAKERS ON A MONITOR:

*NOTE Before beginning this step, please obtain a clean, dry paper towel.

1) Insert the mounting brackets supplied with this package into the slots
on the backs of both speakers. DO NOT REMOVE THE ADHESIVE COVERINGS.

2) Select a location for the speakers.

3) Observe where the adhesive pads contact the monitor housing.

4) Open the alcohol pad included in this package. Clean the surfaces of
monitor which will contact the mounting bracket adhesives. Dry the monitor
surfaces with the paper towel.

5) Remove the adhesive coverings. Carefully position the exposed adhesive
pads so the brackets will squarely mount on monitor. Push into place very
firmly, and hold for ten seconds.

*NOTE* SPEAKER OPERATION-IF YOU HEAR DISTORTION--
The speakers included in this package are non-powered. They receive
amplified sound from the sound board. At high volume levels, you might
hear some distortion. To eliminate high-volume distortion, you might want
to use an amplified speaker system.

CONNECTING A MICROPHONE: (Not Included)

Sound Power, its software, and other application software packages let you
digitize and record your own voice or make other live recordings using a
commonly available 600 ohm dynamic microphone (not supplied). Your
microphone requires a miniature (1/8 inch) mono phone plug. Many
microphones have a 1/4 inch plug. In this case you need an adapter, such
as Radio Shack Catalog Number 274-361. After you complete the hardware
installation, reconnect the power and any disconnected interface cables.

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

INSTALLING THE SOUND BOARD UTILITIES:

1) Insert the SOUND UTILITIES disk into your floppy disk drive.

2) Make your floppy drive the current drive (if it is not already) by
    typing A:              or B::

3) Type INSTALL [A: or B:] [C: or D:] and press ENTER

As an example, if the 3.5 inch drive is the A drive in your system, and
your hard drive is designated C, type this at the A> prompt:

         A>INSTALL A: C:

and then press ENTER. If the above procedure is confusing, read your DOS
Operating System manual for a better understanding of drive designations.
The installation program automatically creates the Sound Power 2.0
directory (\Sp2) on your hard drive, along with several subdirectories
to store utility software.

The directory list of the utility software is shown here:

C:\SP2\

               DRIVERS
               STRACKS
               UTILITY
               WINDOWS

INSTALLING THE GAMES:

1) Insert a game disk into your floppy drive.

2) Type INSTALL.

3) Press ENTER. The program asks you to follow certain instructions.
MAKE NOTE OF THE DIRECTORY NAME ASSIGNED to each game. You must
change to the directory where the game is located to begin using each
game. When you are finished, repeat the above procedure with the next
disk, until all the game software is installed.
