4. Attach the SmartDrive data cable and power cable as described in "Attach-
ing the Cables".

INSTALLATION IN A TYPE B CHASSIS

In a Type B chassis, the SmartDrive can be installed in either the 3 1/2"
drive platform or the 5 1/4" drive bay. See the appropriate instructions in
this section.

TYPE B CHASSIS, 3 1/2" DRIVE PLATFORM

To install the drive in the 3 1/2" drive platform:

1. Remove the two screws that attach the drive platform to the chassis.

2. Slide the drive platform back. Lift the platform to remove it from the
chassis and the drive tower.

3. Attach the drive to the platform as shown, using the three machine screws
provided with the computer.

4. Attach the drive platform to the drive tower by sliding the platform
forward along the top of the drive tower until the tabs (not shown) on the
bottom of the drive engage.

5. Install the two screws (previously removed) to secure the drive platform
to the chassis.

6. Attach the SmartDrive data cable and power cable as described in "Attach-
ing the Cables."

TYPE B CHASSIS, 5 1/4" DRIVE BAY

To install the drive in the 5 1/4" drive bay:

1. Be sure you have attached a bracket to each side of the drive as directed
in the "Pre-installation" section.

2. Determine which 5 1/4" drive bay you should use:

If the drive is the first hard disk drive in the system, install it in the
  lower 5 1/4" drive bay.

If the drive is the second hard disk drive, install it in the upper 5 1/4"
  drive bay.

3. Remove the appropriate drive rails (upper or lower set) from the drive
tower.

4. Attach the drive rails and metal grounding clips to the mounting bracket
as illustrated, using the four machine screws provided with the computer.

5. Slide the drive into the 5 1/4" drive bay until the rails lock into place.

NOTE: You can connect the SmartDrive to the cable either before or after
sliding the drive into the drive bay. See "Attaching the Cables."

INSTALLATION IN A TYPE C CHASSIS

Install a SmartDrive interface adapter, 25-4121, if you have not already done
so. Determine which 5 1/4" drive bay you should use:

* If the drive is the first hard drive in the system, use the lower bay.

* If the drive is the second hard drive in the system, use the upper bay.

For easy installation in the lower drive bay, you can remove the drive tower.
Removing the drive tower is not required for installation in the upper 5 1/4"
drive bay. To remove the drive tower:

1. Disconnect any cables attached to internal drives.

2. Disconnect the battery from the Velcro strip on the side of the tower.

3. Remove the four screws that secure the tower to the bottom of the computer
chassis and the three screws that secure the tower to the front of the
chassis. The following diagram shows which screws you should remove.

4. Carefully lift the drive tower up and out of the system unit.

TYPE C CHASSIS, LOWER 5 1/4" DRIVE BAY

Follow these steps to install the drive in the lower 5 1/4" drive bay:

1. Be sure you have attached a bracket to each side of the drive as directed
in the "Pre-installation" section.

2. Attach four shock isolators to the mounting brackets as shown.

3. Slide the hard drive into the lower 5 1/4" drive bay. If a device is
installed in the upper 5 1/4" drive bay, be sure that the hard drive does not
slide against it. Use the four machine screws provided with the computer to
fasten the hard drive to the drive tower.

NOTE: You can connect the SmartDrive to the cable either before or after
sliding the drive into the drive bay. See "Attaching the Cables."

4. If you removed the drive tower, reinstall it now. Be sure that no cables
are under the drive tower when you replace it. Re-attach the CMOS RAM battery
to the Velcro strip on the side of the drive tower.

TYPE C CHASSIS, UPPER 5 1/4" DRIVE BAY
