LP 1000 (260-2804) Features Faxback Doc. # 4725

The LP-1000 is a high-resolution laser beam printer. It provides you speed
and versatility that dramatically extends the capability of your
application software.

The advantage of a laser beam printer is that it does not use mechanical
components such as print hammers, striker pins, and ink ribbons. This makes
it possible for the LP-1000 to print at a remarkably high speed with very
high resolution. Just as important is that the laser printer is quiet, no
louder than a household refrigerator. This makes the LP-1000 ideal for use
in both home and office.

The laser printer uses a drum coated with photo-sensing material. The laser
diode sends an invisible laser beam onto the drum. The tiny portion--only
1/300"-of the drum that is exposed to the laser beam changes its electrical
charge, and as the drum rotates, it attracts the toner particles onto the
portion the laser beam hit. These tiny dots of toner form the mirror image
of the characters/patterns, and are transferred to the printing paper.
Those who are familiar with plain paper copiers may find the above very
similar to the copy machine: the copy machine illuminates the original and
uses its reflections to set the places where toner should adhere. The
LP-1000 does the same using the latest laser diode technology.

The manual is your guide to setting up and operating the LP-1000. It is
divided into four major sections.

Chapter 1 shows the names and locations of the different parts of the
printer.

Chapter 2 explains how to set up the printer and get it ready for use.

Chapter 3 provides information concerning the proper maintenance of your
printer.

Chapter 4 explains how to use the various resident emulation modes,
in which the printer responds to commands for the Tandy DMP-2110, the
Hewlett-Packard Laser-Jet+, and the IBM Wheelprinter.

Appendix A explains how to diagnose and correct printer errors.

Appendix B explains precautions to take when moving the printer.

Appendix C shows the printer's character sets and their ASCII codes.

Appendix D contains command summaries for each emulation mode.

Appendices E and F give specifications for the printer's interfaces
(parallel and video), and for the printer itself.

Appendix G shows the printer's schematic.

Read the manual carefully so that you can enjoy the full advantages of your
new LP-1000 from the beginning. In particular, be sure to follow the setup
instructions in Chapter 2 very closely to ensure proper installation.
