LMP 2150 (260-1272) Paper Loading Faxback Doc. # 5647

Paper type and thickness will affect your print quality. Both the thick-
ness and the type of paper combine to determine where you position the
Forms Thickness Adjustment Lever. The three ridges on the lever are
reference points for paper thickness, because paper can be from one to
six parts thick. The forward (closed) lever position is for thinner
paper. The back (open) lever position is for thicker paper.

The paper also should be continuous fanfold and have standard sprocket
holes. Each sheet can be from 3 to 24 inches long and from 3 to 16 inches
wide.

NOTE: Always use standard size computer paper (minimum of 8.5" wide) when
performing self-tests.

The following steps proceed quickly, so read all of them before beginning.

1. Lift the Printer cover. The power does not need to be on when you load
the paper, but if it is, make sure the Printer is set to OFF LINE.

2. Move the Forms Thickness Adjustment Lever as far as the lever will go
toward the back of the Printer. (If the power is on, the ALERT indi-
cator will illuminate when you move the lever back. It also will be
illuminated because no paper is in the Printer.)

3. Release the right tractor's lever (the black lever on the smooth bar),
then open both tractor gates. You can release the left tractor's lever,
too however, if you keep the left tractor stationary, you will have
   less to adjust later.

4. Feed paper into the slot underneath. Continue to feed the paper until
it passes between the metal strips and the wide metal bar on top of the
   print head.

5. Load paper in the left tractor's sprocket holes and close the tractor
gate. Load paper in the right tractor's sprocket holes. Make sure that
the paper is aligned horizontally (the correct holes are across from
one another). Close the right tractor gate.

6. If you kept the left tractor stationary, you won't have to complete
   this step.

Slide both tractors so that the left edge where you want printing to start
(or left margin) lines up with the first mark on the Print Position Scale
or where you want the left margin to print. Lock the left tractor's lever
down.

NOTE: Too much or too little paper tension may distort the sprocket holes
and cause problems in paper feed or in printing.

8. Position the paper so that the bottom of your first line (not neces-
sarily the top of the page) is located at the Top-of-Form Adjustment
Pointer--located on the inner edge of the tractor gate.

9. Adjust the forms thickness lever to a position that is correct for the
   thickness of the paper.

10. If power is ON, press the RESTART switch. The ALERT indicator will
    go OFF.

11. Set the top-of-form position by pressing the RESTART switch and,
while holding it down, momentarily pressing the TOP-OF-FORM switch.
    Then, release the RESTART switch.

12. Press the ON/OFF LINE switch to place the Printer ON-LINE.*

NOTE: When the computer sends the first line of print, the Printer will
advance the paper so that the first line is printed at the top of the
next form.

PAPER REMOVAL

1. Tear paper off at its first perforation just under the Printer.

2. Move the Forms Thickness Adjustment Lever toward the back of the
   Printer.

NOTE: Pulling thick paper down through the Printer could damage the
printing mechanism.
