Fax Modem (250-3581) Converting Fax Files Faxback Doc. # 5899

BitFax's File Conversion Utility converts faxes into graphic files for use
in other applications, such as PC Paintbrush. The File conversion utility
can convert TIFF Class F files and fax files created by BitFax. TIFF
files have the extension TIF, and BitFax files have the extension BFX.

To open the File Conversion Utilities Menu, select the Utilities Functions
command from the Communication Functions Menu. Then from the Utilities
Function Menu, select the File Conversion option. The File Conversion
Utilities Menu will appear.

The File Conversion utility can convert the fax files created by BitFax
BFX and TIFF Class F into the PCX, TIFF Uncompressed and TIFF Class F
format. PCX is the industry standard graphic format used in PC Paintbrush
and most other graphic applications. TIFF Uncompressed (Tagged Image File
Format) is a popular graphic format used by most scanners. TIFF Class F
is the fax version of the TIFF format.

To convert a fax file, select a file in the Source box by highlighting the
file you want to convert and pressing [ENTER]. A small triangle will
appear next to the file. Press the right arrow key to move to the Format
box and select the format you want the file converted to. Next, press
[F5]. A dialog box will prompt you for a file name. You can only enter
up to six characters. Some fax files are more than on-page long and need
to be split up into pages when converted. The last two characters
indicate the page number of the file. Last, press [F5] and BitFax
will begin converting the file.
