TAD-430  (430-0712)           Remote Operation          Faxback Doc. # 6164

REMOTE CONTROL OPERATION

You can control your answering machine from almost any touch-tone phone.
You can also control it from a rotary dial phone, using a pocket tone
dialer.

SETTING THE SECURITY CODE

You must enter your personal security code before you begin any remote
operation. This prevents unauthorized access to your messages.

The factory-set security code is 111.

However, we recommend that you select your own security code. The buttons
on your answering machine represent the following numbers on a touch-tone
phone.

   [STOP]=1
   [PLAY]=2
   [REWIND]=3
   [FAST-F]=4
   [LINE]=5
   [MEMO]=6
   [ANN ONLY]=7
   [ANSWER]=8

For example, to enter 125, press [STOP], [PLAY], and [LINE].

Follow these steps to set your own security code.

1. Set the MASTER POWER switch to OFF. The POWER indicator goes off.

2. While holding down [STOP], set the MASTER POWER switch to ON. The
    POWER indicator lights and a long beep sounds. Release [STOP].

3. Within seven seconds after the beep, enter your three-digit code. A
    long beep sounds.

Note: If you do not enter each digit within seven seconds of the previous
       digit, the answering machine sounds eight short beeps. Return to
       Step 1 to set the code.

ACCESSING BY REMOTE CONTROL

Before remote operation, set the answering machine to the answer or
announce-only mode. You can set the answering machine to either mode from
a remote location.

1. Dial the phone number of the line you selected with the LINE button.
    If you selected both LINE 1 and LINE 2, you can call either line. The
    answering machine answers and the outgoing announcement begins.

Note: If you hear the voice-synthesized announcement, you cannot use
       remote control commands.

2. Press [*] during the outgoing announcement. The announcement stops.

3. Carefully enter your 3-digit security code within seven seconds after
    the announcement stops. A confirmation tone sounds after the first
    and second digit of the code.

Notes:

* If you do not enter each digit within seven seconds after the previous
   digit or if you enter an incorrect code, the outgoing announcement
   replays. Press [*] again to stop the announcement and re-enter the
   correct security code.

* If you enter an incorrect security code more than three times, your
   answering machine does not respond to any more attempts during that
   call. Hang up and call again.

If the answering machine recorded at least one new message or memo, it
automatically rewinds the incoming tape and plays back the new message(s)
or memo.

After playback, the answering machine stops, sounds three short beeps, a
command prompt (one long beep and two short beeps), and waits seven seconds
for the next remote command. If your answering machine does not receive
any commands, it resets for the next call.

If the answering machine has not received any new messages or a memo, it
sounds a command prompt to signal you to enter a command.

If the incoming message tape is full when you call the answering machine,
the answering machine sounds eight short beeps and stops without playing
the outgoing announcement. Press [*] and enter your security code within
seven seconds.
